Cat Saturday: Three's Company

Photo quote de jour

Presto change-o, Odin has grown again. It won't be long before he's bigger than svelte Gris Gris. Funny how quickly kittens grow up. He was in heaven this morning digging in the snow, sniffing and straining at his leash to mush. I swear he'd love to pull a sled if he could.

Less of a snow bunny is Merlin who stays rooted to hotspots like the window sill radiator with a heating pad AKA his throne. He sometimes shares it with Odin or Gris Gris but never at the same time, until today. This has the makings of either a sitcom or a Shakepearean drama. Merlin westles with young Odin, grooms him and dispenses wisdom, but never snuggles with him. I caught Merlin and Gris Gris looking very cozy for the first time on the throne so who knows what changes are in store in the kingdom.

Gris Gris, who I suspect has never had a loving home, is gradually trusting us more. He hates being picked up but tolerates it a few more seconds every day. When he first came to us he wouldn't look me in the eye and then a wary glance, but now he looks at me with a myriad of emotions and mews the weakest of voices. His displays of affection are a push/pull of headbutts but always on his terms. It's still incredibly difficult to capture his essence on film but I'm making progress. True to his former name "Shadow" he often skulks aound with shadowy quicksilver movements. I can safely say he is the most unusual, ethereal wisp of a cat I ever known. He never scratches or is difficult in any way and barely takes up breathing space.

This portrait was taken in between the slats of the staircase, a favorite sunny spot to lounge.

His polar opposite is loud, proud, cantankerous King Merlin the Magnificent who granted me permission to take this sphinx-like portrait. He's back to his old loudmouthed self and even, (be still my beating heart) snuggled under the covers with me which he hasn't done in weeks! So all is well in our Kitty Kingdom. Until next week, love, foster or adopt a cat or two or three.

Great collection of all the kitties. We did miss seeing Dom. How is he doing?? Odin does look like he has such fun in the snow. We are so glad you fostered Odin and Gris Gris and it sure looks like Merlin is happy too. Take care.

Dom Dom has been scarce. We were worried about him disappearing for a day in the bitter cold but he returned this morning, no worse for wear.

aww, Odin is such a doll. So photogenic and so happy cat. Gris Gris, I love him, too; that tiny voice and headbutting is so Ched like. and King Merlin, he is always the king. and what of Dom Dom?

I was inspired by the staircase photos that I took a few of my boys; Mao on my fur coat (black on brown) and Ched on my down comforter (orange on beige).

Up in a few days. Must get back to my MS.
