Edible Sunshine
Photo quote de jour

Orange, the fruit and the color may bring rays of cheeriness, but boo hoo I'm sad. I just sliced up the last orange I bought from the farmer's market in Florida. Vegetables bring us close to the earth but fruit brings us closer to heaven. These ambrosia babies were so juicy they needed to be squeezed with a raincoat on. Meeting the farmer added a special touch. If you have a chance to support a farmer's market near you please do. More than ever they need our business.
For a mere 80 calories and daily boost of vitamins C, D and calcium, oranges are truly edible sunshine. When you peel the skin, the orangey scented spray is actually an essential oil, and you guessed it, orange like all the citrus family is natural anti-depressant.

Gorgeous photos.
Oh yes, so important to support farmers local. I drank a quart of OJ daily for years and ate tons of oranges; now that I eat mostly plants, think I will go back to lots of OJ, too. In addition to all the others I eat.

Brings back childhood memories of picking oranges off the tree in the grove, peeling back a 2 inch circle from the stem end, bite, then squeeze and suck. When no more juice, turn inside out and eat the pulp. Ummmm! Good tip to buy local, helps the farmers and the nutrients have not yet faded when produce is fresh.

One of the things I miss most about Arizona are the navel oranges, probably imported from California. Every bite was a pure sensual delight. I even used to eat the peels.
"Vegetables bring us close to the earth but fruit brings us closer to heaven."-Love that line.

Sadly most citrus is heavily sprayed with pesticides making the the peels inedible. Another reason to buy organic.
