Are you addicted to the internet? Find out by taking this quiz www.netaddiction.com I found this via one of the (too many books ) I read this week. I'm borderline addicted to the net and clearly addicted to reading. No surprise there. I never considered myself the addictive type since drugs or alcohol were never an issue, but the internet changed all that. Elias Aboujaoude, a psychiatrist and director of the OCD clinic at Stanford has written an explosive book Virtually You: The Dangerous Power of the e-Personality. He contends that our e-personality or id-like sub personality gets hijacked online and brings out the worst in us. It's a must read for anyone who logs on every day. I felt like throwing my computer out the window but didn't. How can I ? I'm addicted.

I needed something light and funny to read afterward. What better than the latest from funny girl Nora Ephron? I loved I Feel Bad About My Neck but this follow-up, diet-sized sliver of a book was consumed while waiting at the doctor's office. Verdict? A chocolate bar would have been more satisfying. I Remember Nothing could be also titled: I Remember My Agent/Publicist/Accountant Told Me To Churn Out Another Book Fast.
It's never a good idea to begin a new book with a bad taste in your mouth from the previous one. I really wanted to read Poser My Life in Twenty-Three Yoga Poses by Claire Dederer. It's a best seller. I'm a long time devotee of yoga. What could go wrong? I loved about 10%, hated about 10% and felt blah about the other 80%. My time would have been better utilized actually doing yoga. I think poseur would be a more accurate title.
Maybe all this reading and internet addiction is turning me into miss cranky pants with ADHD. As a last resort, I turned to the dogs... I love dogs. How could I go wrong with another best seller and this cute cover?

Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell and Know by Alexandra Horowitz made me realize how much of a cat lover I am. I kept thinking This is interesting but what about cats? If I ever get a dog, I'll race back to read this. It's good, it really is. The only cure for me this week is reading material for the attention deficit challenged: Magazines. Best article? I don't remember. Oh the shame. I did bake some awesome brownies from a recipe in Bon Appetit though. Better luck next week...

I'm guilty of all 10 points when it comes to being addicted to reading, and happily so. And I know I'm guilty of being addicted to the internet, so I think I'll just skip Virtually You. No sense beating myself up about something I don't intend to change. As far as addictions go, I think this is not the worst one to have. The many wonderful connections I've made through this addiction far outweigh the negatives.
Please excuse me while I go check my e-mail and my Facebook page again.

LOL, true, there are far worse addictions.

Everything is an "addiction" these days. I think the word is terribly misused. One thing I'm not addicted to is winter. It's snowing pretty heavily here today, which means more shoveling and scraping off the car. However, I'm not jaded yet: the snow still looks pretty.
