I'm in the the city today, New York City natch to see if Joan Didion's words ring true. I'm still reeling/swooning from words at a dinner/reading last night of Andre Dubus III and Jennifer Gilmore hosted by Andre's niece, writer DeLaune Michel. Andre read from his latest best seller Townie and Jennifer read from her acclaimed new novel Something Red. I'll be reviewing both books in the near future.

Sounds like a scintillating evening. Glad you had a good time. I doubt Joan's words ring true for 90% of the people living in NYC, just for a certain ambitious minority.
