What I'm Reading This Week- March 27, 2011 - Tim Ferriss, Steve Martin, Anne Roiphe
Quote de jour
“The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them.”
~Mark Twain
After a champagne-soaked social whirl this week, I'm winding down to warp speed. My synapses are fried and sorely need a break or a transplant. After coasting through Anne Roiphe's hot new memoir "Art and Madness" I savored her bite-sized morsels of early '60s literary New York, when young wannabee writers like Anne clung to the gin-soaked sleeves of male writers for a whiff of genius. All I can say is baby, we've come a long way, and so has Ms. Roiphe.

It's an easy segue from the literary world to the fictional New York art world of Steve Martin's latest novel "An Object of Beauty". I'm not finished yet but I'm marveling at his blossoming as a novelist. Everything is spot on: from the crisp prose, insider knowledge of the art scene to the perfectly designed cover that appears like a freshly primed canvas.

The Sunday New York Times today did a huge full color, two page spread about the world of Tim Ferriss and his huge bestselling book The Four-Hour Body. His publicist must be having one of those 15 minute orgasms described in the book. All I can say is Tim is a marketing genius. There is so much information, my brain turned to goo, but I did bookmark a few of the dozens of intriguing links for future reading and research which will take at least four hours. So much much for saving time but the hefty book can double as doorstop or an exercise aid.

This is the first week in my poor memory that I haven't at least given my stack of mags a good once over. The only twist: both Martha Stewart and Rolling Stone have double covers. Poor Snooki, at least she's being catapulted all the way to the bank as the decline of civilization deepens. Lady Gaga is OMG (yes, that is officially a word now in the Oxford English Dictionary) always one step ahead of fashion.
