Cat Saturday - Wags & Whiskers
Photo quote de jour

My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to pets in Japan. There are many organizations helping there like ARK
Closer to home we pet lovers do what we can. I helped out with the Wags & Whiskers gala fund-raiser
last Friday to benefit two local shelters Cat Assistance NY and Pet Adoption League. Thank-you to Sabine Reichert of SabineArt.com for designing the poster.
Gris Gris (pictured above) came to us from Cat Assistance five months ago with little Odin (pictured below) who at five-months-old was already looking for mischief and adventure.
He's doubled in size since as well as his capacity for mischief. He brings new meaning to the word curiosity which I view as superior intelligence (as witnessed at yesterday's blog).

The historic Coveleigh Club overlooking Long Island Sound in Rye N.Y. was the gala venue.

It's always a joy being in the same room with like-minded animal lovers and the evening was a happy success.
The crowd, leaned towards a middle-aged female demographic. Nothing wrong with that, but it was nice to see a few kids and young adults ushering in the next generation of pet lovers.
Guests mingled and roamed the common rooms aglow with crackling wood-burning fires. They bought raffle tickets and made bids for the silent auction to win an enormous selection of prizes from music and sports memorabilia, artwork to a hot air balloon ride, spa retreats, show tickets and a whole lot more.

While guests nibbled, laughed and imbibed a stellar selection of wines generously sponsored by Wine Enthusiast

we were reminded by a mountain of free cat and dog treats that animals were real reason for us being there.
Thank-you Jennifer Dombkowski from Hartz Mountain for your generous donation of Crunch 'N Clean treats.

Dinner was a delectable buffet for vegetarians and meat eaters alike...

and enjoyed in the dining room with old and new friends.

This year the gala honored four individuals dedicated to ending animal cruelty: Westchester County Assistant District Attorney Mary Ann Liebowitz, Chief of Putnam County S.P.C.A. Kenn Ross Jr., Detective Putnam County S.P.C.A. Kenn Ross III and Veterinarian Dr. Robert Jiao.

Sarah Hart, President of Cat Assistance received an award of appreciation from District Attorney Janet Defiore for her tireless work on behalf of cats and dogs. Since I volunteer with her, I can certainly attest to that.

That gala sure looks great. Glad it was such a big success and hopefully some animals found new homes.
I had a college roommate that lived in Rye, NY. It is a gorgeous place.
Hope you are writing down Oden's antics for that book.

It was fun and the animals benefited. I am taking notes for a possible book.

Sounds like it was a wonderful event - and what a gorgeous setting!
It's hard to believe it's already been five months since Odin and Gris-Gris came into your life.

Rye is lovely. I know, five months whizzed by and the blossoming of those two rascals is heartwarming.

The gala looked like it was fun. And Gris Gris and Odin are such great pets. A very worthy cause. Wonderful work.

It was and they are. What would we do without our fur babies?
