Everything is a Diary
Photo quote de jour

The magnificently restored Morgan Library on Madison Avenue recently held an exhibit about diaries. It got me thinking how
all those diarists spanning three centuries would probably be bloggers now. Or would they? Diaries have a way of being found and read secretly or posthumously. If you really have secrets you want to keep to the grave, don't keep a diary.
While searching for a quote to go with my photograph, I came across this one by novelist Chuck Palahniuk. It forced me to think about diaries in a new way, as a label of how we define ourselves in the age of Google and instant everything. Is everything self-portrait or self-indulgent? Do we wear our diaries on our bodies as tattoos, or fashion choices or in our homes as decor? Is everything a diary or means of self expression? And do you keep a diary?
