Marriage of Heaven & Earth

The Summer Solstice or first day of summer on June 21st is also referred to as the marriage of Heaven and Earth because it  marks the time to celebrate the feminine (mother/earth/moon) and the masculine (father/sky/sun) energies. The days leading up to this moment are perfect for celebrations of all kinds. I was sitting in the garden after dinner and felt my circulation slowing down as time moved in slow motion towards the longest day of the year ( at least in the northern hemisphere). As we enter into this time of blossoming outwards, it reminds me of those living in the southern hemisphere are going within, by honoring their shortest day of their year with the Winter Solstice.

It's no accident that June is the most popular month to get married. The tradition coincides with the Celtic tradition of naming the first full moon in June the "Honey Moon" because it was the best time to harvest honey from the hives. A honey wine called Mead was made from honey collected on the “honeymoon” and used as a part of wedding ceremonies.

What ever you are celebrating, take time to stretch time and savor this final count down to summer.
