Oh Canada!
It's always weird for me to celebrate Canada Day in the U.S. Both Canada Day and the 4th of July celebrate independence from British rule and yes, we have fireworks too. Being a typical Canadian, I don't spend too much time thinking about being Canadian or patriotic. We don't need to brag or shove flags in anyone's face
(unless it's the Stanley Cup playoffs!) we just quietly love our country. And without bragging, according to Rankopedia, Canada ranks #4 on the list of best countries to live. The U.S. lags behind at the # 12 spot.
Because Canadians are innately funny and self-deprecating, what better way to celebrate than with a joke?
What is a Canadian? A Canadian is someone who wears English tweeds, a Hong Kong shirt and Spanish shoes, who sips Colombian coffee sweetened with Philippine sugar from a Japanese cup while nibbling Swiss cheese, sitting at a Danish desk over a Persian rug, after coming home in a German car from an Italian movie... and then writes his Member of Parliament with a Japanese ballpoint pen on French paper, demanding that he do something about foreigners taking away our Canadian jobs.
Happy Oh Canada Day, eh?

Layla,
I've been fortunate in my life with having spent my childhood on Santa Catalina Island, California and had a two-week vacation in British Columbia, Canada. Two of the most beautiful places on this old earth. Happy Oh Canda Day to you!

Happy Canada Day to you Layla: From one cat loving, nature inspired gal to another; having a mellow day in typical low key Canadian fashion. Caught a little of the Royals who are visiting Ottawa, adding a dash of glamour, on TV, and now preparing for the evening fireworks at the Beach. Wish you were here or I there,... soon. xo Theresa

Happy Canada Day, Layla! I spent many a jolly summer in Canada in my teens and twenties. My brother lived there for many years.

Layla, I had left you a comment wishing you a happy Canada Day, but it seems it never got through. So I'll leave this belated one now. I have so many fond memories of your native country. Throughout my teens and early twenties I spent practically every summer there.
