What I'm Reading This Week - Aug.21, 2011- A Dog's Purpose

Quote de jour

"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read."

~Groucho Marx

The review of the best selling novel A Dog's Purpose is at our other site CatWisdom101.com

I also read the highly regarded new memoir by Gully Wells The House In France about her early life in swinging London, Paris and Provence of the '60s and '70s with her family's famous friends. While well written and amusing, I kept thinking about her job (for the past 33 years) as features editor at Conde Nast's Traveler magazine. I've read the magazine for years and love it.  I can't put my finger on it but something was sorely missing in her book. Maybe the merry-go-round whirl of her life blurred half way through. The best part was how she tied up the ending of the book with re-visiting the memory saturated family house in France after her mother died.

This week's stack of magazines are still selling the joys of summer.
