Horror Vacui

After the unveiling of the new blog design yesterday, I fell into a hole of horror vacui. No, not some sci-fi  video game. Horror vacui is the term for fear of empty space, words dredged up from my art school days. The fear or obsession is about filling every bit of white space in a painting or any other space. It's about not being able to stop and just decide.

As much as I espouse a Zen perspective on this blog, I  am not a minimalist. I'm the person with 80+ teapots in my dining room and art fills every wall of every room in my house. Clutter is my middle-name and even though I practise feng shui, stuff, grows and spreads in every drawer.

This is a collage of some of my photography which I thought would make a nice header BUT...

it's busy. Cluttered. Unfocused. As hard as it was to streamline down to my brand's essence, I had to bite the bullet and let go of the need to be everything to everyone. It's enough to be true to me. That, is my insight today. What's yours?

Uncluttered and focused - I needed to remind myself of that when looking at new themes for Sam's blog (thanks for your insight by the way!)......I like your new look! Trying to be all things to all people is exhausting and downright impossible. Being true to ourselves might be tough for some, but it's infinitely more rewarding - and honest.

Pam, glad it helped. It's one thing to decorate our homes, it's another thing to have a home on the Internet. We have a split second to attract someone to stay and read. Attention spans or most readers are like gnats;they want to get something fast and get out to flit to their next site.

I love this collage but get what you're saying. Now must return to decluttering my desk.

Love the collage and the new design, Layla! I don't think any of us have any doubt that Layla will always be true to Layla. Welcome to September!
