Crow Wisdom
When I was five, I fell in love with crows in the mountains north of Montreal. My parents were close friends with a couple who owned a log cabin lodge and one summer left me in their care during the week while parents visited on the weekend. The older childless couple doted on me, and not having any experience with children, treated me like adult. And not just any adult but an honored guest free to roam the magical place. Esther baked chocolate cakes for me and George waited me on my hand and foot. It was like a country version of Eloise at the Plaza Hotel.
I loved having my own cozy room (in the city I had to share with my brother) with hand hewn logs my father had helped build. It had charming fairy-tale windows that over looked the mountains and every morning before opening my eyes I could tell the weather by the sound of crows. Certain caws were "Hello, what's happening? Nice day." and others were "The clouds are dark. Rain is coming."
Little did I know, I'd connected with the crows on a spiritual level that in Native traditions are called power or totem animals. They show up as teachers when needed and still love to hear their caws and their messages. Click to listen to their caw and learn more about Crow
Crows inspired me to create a Crow Wisdom photo quote de jour today.

What a lovely experience and memories. It does sound like a fairy tale.

It was until it wasn't. This fairy tale did not have a happy ending. Esther and George retired back to Finland when I was 12 and died in car crash on their first day back.

Amazing art work. Is that you in the image with a crow?

Thanks, yes it is but the crow isn't real.

Layla, another beautiful memory and photo quote de jour that you've shared with us. But I was so saddened to read what you wrote above about Esther and George. You must've been devastated when you heard the news.

They were like grandparents to me. Truly devastated especially because circumstances of their death. After immigrating to a new country, working hard, building a business, retiring happily back home, only to die a horrific death on the very next day. It had a profound impact on me spiritually and jumpstarted my burgeoning interest in spirituality and karma.
