Spring In the Dead Of Winter
All gardeners know to prune their rose bushes before winter but I left two dead stalks as an
experiment, resulting in today's "before and after" photo quote de jour. The difference is shocking but a testament to the power of regeneration and faith. It seems impossible that anything could grow in the desiccated frozen ground, its colors muted to a palette of beige. But, another rose will bloom in the same spot again in June and that fills me with hope and wonder.

Nature is truly amazing. I had rhododendrons that were frozen last winter, yet underneath the sheets of ice were the buds that bloomed come spring. What a great post!

I started planting vegs couple of years ago and found it so much fun. My cilantro "died" at the end of year but grew all by itself the next spring. Mother nature is so amazing! So are we!

Gardeners have a different concept of time and cycles. We can't speed it up or slow it down so we accept the beauty of each season.
