Life Changing Moments
Quote de jour
Reading takes us away from home, but more important, it finds homes for us everywhere.
~ Hazel Rochman
We've all had them. Life-defining moments at critical junctures of time. Some pop out. Some need easing out but they're there. A new book, The Moment edited by Larry Smith chronicles the life-changing moments of 125 artists and writers that just might inspire you to have life-changing moment. This is brevity at its most brilliant. If you are a writer, run to their website. Enjoy.

It's a double joy to follow an enjoyable read hot on the heels of another one. I'm still swooning over the most romantic unromantic love story The Odds from last week.
In a similar vein, a new acclaimed novel The Night Swimmer by Matt Bondurant is another exploration of marriage but with a gothic twist. A couple from Vermont think they've hit the jackpot when they win a pub in Ireland. Elly, the wife and serious swimmer narrates the story, while hubby Fred has hopes of finishing his novel while learning to run a pub. These two innocents abroad get more than they bargain for in a place where outsiders don't become insiders without a fight.

Our magazine montage include more George Clooney. Again! And surely Oprah didn't slim down six sizes in one month? The best "new" food of the year from Bon Appetit include:Asian inspired subs, mackerel is the new tuna, Scotch eggs, wheat-free anything, except for new pasta shapes like trofie (long skinny spirals, and say good-bye cupcakes, hello canele, classic little caramelized French cakes. oh la la. And love her or hate her, ya gotta love how beautiful Martha makes V day. Travel & Leisure makes me want a winter escape, immediately if not sooner. How about you?
