Long Live Short Stories

Quote de jour

“Reading is that fruitful miracle of a communication in the midst of solitude”
~Marcel Proust

I was thrilled when Julian Barnes won the 2011 Man Booker Prize for his novel The Sense of an Ending. He's equally gifted writing novels, short stories or
essays with his signature British wit and insight. I still miss the essays Barnes wrote when he served as London correspondent for the New Yorker between 1990-1995.  Oxford educated, he's the kind of writer other writers write about. From his website this is a page of dissertations and theses Yeah, I'm more than a little impressed. At the library yesterday I scanned the new book shelf and my heart skipped a beat. His latest collection of short stories: Pulse peeked out.  The cover design didn't thrill but for for once I didn't care. These 14 stories pulse with life and the all too human themes of love and loss. Apparently short stories are hot again. Long live short stories.

This week's magazine montage. Red, white and blue seems to be on trend for covers. Clinto has never looked better. Best fried chicken. Oh yeah, but not for Bill.
