Little Miracles
When I was seven, I begged my parents for my own little vegetable garden. I'd fallen in love with a kitchen garden friends of my parents had. My parents weren't gardeners but indulged my new passion. We lived at that time in a new suburban development north of Montreal in Canada. The flat freshly laid sod and spindly new trees did nothing to feed my soul. Somehow, I knew the secret joys of growing things from the earth was a sacred act. My garden (shown below) was only a sliver in size but nothing tasted sweeter than my first tissue-thin lettuce. Little miracles, I called them, then and now.

Gosh, what a gorgeous and sweet cutie pie you were! And tall! You look like you could have grown into the beanstalk Jack had wanted. Either you were very fast or you're about 5 foot 10. Of course, my doc wondered if I'd ever reach 5 feet. I did.
Such a beautiful garden. I feel the lushness of it through the Internet-film.
A really wonderful photo. Thanks for the story..
Demand Media is seeking writers who are expert gardeners. I don't garden. And seeking experts in food writing.

Kathryn, thanks. I'm no expert gardener. And I'm not tall. Just coltish in the pic.

Your little garden looks pretty impressive to someone like me, who has two black thumbs! Cute photo of you!

Ingrid, thanks! I'm what I call an accidental gardener. I still don't know what I'm doing. Sometime it works sometimes it doesn't but I like break breaking rules and figure there's always another season.

You are definitely a colt! Cutest pony I ever saw!
You're still taller than I am. 5 foot 2 now. Was 5 foot 3.

Layla, what a great photo of you and your garden. You look so triumphant. My older brother lived in a small urban development just north of Montreal called Chomedey. I used to visit him quite frequently. Over the years I made many good friends there.
